After five episodes I’m beginning to see what all the buzz for this series was about.

Fate/Zero - 05

I’m sure a bigger Type-Moonie would find it painfully obvious from the start, but for me it’s really becoming apparent that the servants in this drama are much more interesting than the masters.

Apparently, among Satou-san’s many talents is the innate ability to know when he’s sparkling.

Mawaru Penguin Drum - 16

Here’s a case where the new ED fit the episode content perfectly – “Everybody went nutso”.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai - 04

Possibly the most romantic pickup line ever: “This is the first time I’ve ever been interested in a mammal.”

Guilty Crown - 03

I’ve pretty much made my point about how great Guilty Crown looks, so it’s probably about time I shut up about it.  This does create a dilemma, though – now I actually have to talk about the plot.

UN-GO - 03

I’m still not sure what to make of UN-GO after three episodes, but’s it’s carving out a place as a show that’s genuinely interesting for its creativity and unapologetic weirdness.

Mashiro-Iro Symphony - 04

I’m the first to admit that this series is running the risk of becoming a little too one-note, and that note is “nice”.

Fall 2011 – Check-in

That time again – we’re about a month into Fall and things are starting to become clearer about what’s great, what’s good and what’s forgettable among the series that premiered this season.  As usual this year Wednesday is a black hole, so the only time I’ll have to put this together…

One thing I notice immediately is that every show in my top tier is a two-cour, and that’s never happened since I began blogging.  In fact, there are generally more multi-cour shows this season than any for quite some time, which I consider a positive trend – I remember a time when 26 episodes was the norm and not the exception, and I think it offers a lot more freedom to tell a complex and interesting story.

Chihayafuru - 04

It’s back to high school on Chihayafuru, but fortunately the series is just as compelling as ever.

Yes, things are quite serious in Kyoto now.  Aotabo has finally put the kids to bed and taken the field.

Mirai Nikki - 03

This was an another solid episode of Mirai Nikki with a lot to like, but only one moment stands out among all the rest for me – “You’re still hiding something from me, aren’t you?”

Working’!! - 04

It’s been mostly smiles rather than laughs with Working this season, but the smiles have been pretty much non-stop for me so I’m not complaining.

Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam - 02

 
After two episodes, I really have no idea what Gonzo is trying to accomplish with this continuation of the Last Exile saga. My sincere hope is that they do.

Ben-To - 03

I have nothing against plums, but when it comes to Ben-To there’s one rotten Ume that’s dangerously close to spoiling the whole tree.

Hunter x Hunter 2011 - 04

Once again I’ll confess I rather enjoyed that episode, which was quite a bit different from the three that preceded it.

Bakuman 2 - 04

I’m really liking the direction Bakuman is taking.  The last couple of episodes have been excellent, and it’s always interesting to see real life meta-realistically portrayed in anime.
