More Tokyo Snow

IMAG0935 IMAG0936 IMAG0941

That cute little surprise snow has turned into an actual snowstorm.

We’ve got around 15cm so far where I live, and they closed Kagurazaka-dori to traffic this afternoon.  I haven’t checked, but I think it’s pretty rare for Tokyo to get this much snow – I consider myself very lucky to have gotten to see it.  I expect it to all be gone by the morning, but the forecast never said we'd get it in the first place.

It’s a national holiday here (Coming of Age Day) so it really couldn’t have come at a better time in terms of minimizing disruption.  I took a walk through town, stopped for some hot tea and snapped some photos of Akagi Jinja and Bishamon-ten (which half the town seemed to be doing) – the kids are enjoying themselves, there are snowmen on the stoops and only the drivers and shopkeepers look really miserable.

  1. The second picture is rather nice looking. Don't see that very often in Tokyo I suppose.

Other than that tho ... sorry, not a huge fan of snow.

  2. Hope you're enjoying the snow! I absolutely love snow events, even if it turns everyone else into a complete moron on the roads. And living in the mid-Atlantic region of the US, we get snow a few times a year, sometimes big amounts, usually not so big. But sounds like you should be having fun.

  3. Did you go out and check out the people celebrating the Coming of Age Day? We saw it anime, but wonder how it is like in real life...

    1. Trust me, I am, thanks. It even stuck around today, and likely will for a couple more days.
